The Temple Grandin movie is amazing. 100% clean and a tear jerker, esp if you know people with autism.

I know this might sound nuts, but I suggest the Charlie Chaplin movies... wait! ... don't roll your eyes, don't go away... I really mean it! ... I few weeks ago I saw a biopic simply called "Chaplin" starring Robert Downey Jr... I thought it was really good so I got on a Charlie Chaplin kick, learning a lot about him and watching any Chaplin I could find... both silent & talkies. They're remarkably sophisticated, and the humor is ingenious. He was such an interesting man too. So much of the artistic past is ignored these days, shame.

I saw The King's Speech. It's okay, it does have some profanity, but it is used in context of a therapy technique.

I recently saw 12 Angry Men (from the 1950s). It's excellent, and very thought provoking.

Other than that, I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that isn't "girly."I'll post again if I think of anything else.

Check out commonsensemedia.org - I wouldn't necessarily rely on their reviews, but they give ratings for content and point out exactly what issues there may be (intended for parents finding movies for kids - but they cover all movies). For reviews, I find that the yahoo users ratings are the most reliable.

I just thought of something else. I was recently watching the mini series North and South (2004) based on the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. My husband did not sit down to watch it with me, but he did take interest and watched/ listened to some parts of it while he was in the same room with me. I was surprised that he took interest. It is pretty clean. There is period costume (no low necklines, but not exactly all up to the collar bone). There is a kissing scene at the very end. Otherwise, it is mostly about cultural shock, and labour disputes in the 1850s.

I never would have thought my husband would take interest in this. I don't think he would chose to watch it on his own, but I never felt like I had to protect him from it or anything.

Argo is an amazing movie. Ocean's Eleven. Spy Game.

I second Argo!

I would also suggest "Now You See Me" - we really enjoyed it!

Bend it Like Beckham

If you like Newsies...maybe Hello Dolly, Hairspray, Annie, Pitch Perfect

Sister Act

I always loved "Yours Mine and Ours"!
