Spa certificate... for a massage or whatever she decides. Is there a support system, someone to stay with her child so she can take breaks?

How about a body Lotion?
A good book?

Even if you know what she usually enjoys, she might not be her usual self now so its hard to use past experience with this friend to know what will be helpful now. But if she loves to read then a nice book will be appreciated, even if she doesn't have the attention span for it right now.

Bring her a book to read to her child. It will give her a way to connect.
Is there kosher food nearby? end her out and pay for her meal while you sit with her DC.

Not so much of a gift, but when we were in the hospital with our child, the most appreciated thing was the person who called us up and said I'm coming, will be there in an hour, what would you like me to bring for you for lunch? Three years later, I still remember that (and yes, there was kosher food provided. But when you want a tuna sandwich on an everything bagel, cream cheese on a kaiser roll just doesn't compare!)
