My dc is doing a project on australia and needs to bring in a food/snack in connection. Please help us think of an idea.
Thanks

My sister has friends in Australia so she went to visit so I asked her what she thinks. This is her reply:
Vegimite, its a little like nuttella
skinny flat white coffee
Churros, its like a long doughnut in a stick covered with powdered sugar
The last thing on her list reminded me of a cereal my ds once picked out
http://www.amazon.com/Post-Min.....urros
Good luck!

I am Australian
Try Googling pavlova or lamingtons.
Both desserts and very yummy.
Or Anzac biscuits (oatmeal cookies that were sent to the Australian New Zealand Army Corps because they lasted a long time).
Hope this helps

Just to add, I am pretty sure that churros are Spanish; definitely not Australian.
And vegemite tastes NOTHING like nutella; it's a black, yeast based spread that you have to have grown up with to appreciate. People who have never tasted it thinks it tastes terrible- definitely an acquired taste.

lol. this is so inaccurate, it's laughable!
vegemite is salty and very much an acquired taste. It's also difficult to find in other places.
no idea what the coffee thing is.
and churros are absolutely not australian!
as another poster said, try lamington, pavlova or anzac biscuits (cookies). Or mini meat pies would be cute (but messy and fleishig). or fairy bread (white bread with butter/marg. and non-pareil sprinkles). or chocolate crackles (a rice crispie/coconut/chocolate treat). You can Google all these for pictures and recipes.

Um, I guess, in that you spread both of them on bread.
But Nutella is delicious rich chocolate hazelnut spread, whereas vegemite tastes like toe jam.

I am not sure if this is officially 'aussie' but when I was there e/o served lemon tarts ( I noticed quite a few lemon trees around).
Also mini meat pies
