Bunting Vs. Coat For Baby (that doesn't walk)

I've seen both buntings and coats for babies. I am trying to understand why a person would buy a coat over a bunting. Buntings (like a fuzzy coat w/ legs) cover the baby all the way and coats don't. Why would a person buy a coat instead of a bunting? (This is obviously for a baby that doesn't walk.)

I have a snowsuit/bunting for my baby. It's not so easy to put on. I can imagine that for going out in a pushchair, a coat with a blanket tucked round would be quicker. Or a coat and a bundleme.

I love the way he looks in his snowsuit though. It's so cute and he is very cozy!

If you get a bunting, make sure that it is easy too use in the car. I had a bunting with a slit for the straps that worked beautifully, but the sacks (pajamas without seperate feet) that someone gave me never got used because it was too complicated to strap around.

Totally depends on age. My baby was 0-6 months old during his first winter. Of course he wore a bunting (I got those thin ones that are made of sherling rather than a bunting that's all big and puffy and hard to manipulate). Now he is still not walking and he's 15 months old and there is NO way he would let me put on a bunting that involves his feet. Plus he wouldn't fit into a normal car seat with it. So he uses a coat. Easy to put on and doesn't involve so much bulk. Once he's in the car seat, I drape a blanket over his bottom half so he's nice and toasty. In the carriage I do the same. So he's never really exposed.

My baby is a newborn and we use a snowsuit, which works best for riding around in a bassinet (which is how we travel; we don't have a car) just providing another perspective (since I don't recall if you mentioned that you will be in and out of a car/car seat or not)

My baby has this brown bearlike bunting from Carters, but it splits in the legs so I don't understand how carseats would be a problem, except for the fact that it's bulky. I rarely use a carseat so not really an issue for me.

Anyway, I am asking b/c I see coats on sale and am trying to figure out if I am missing s/t. From the posts, it seems like a bunting/snow suit (that have separate legs) is the way to go for a younger baby and a coat is better for an older baby (regardless of whether they walk or not).

We had a fleece-lined footmuff-type thing that fit around the legs and chest of a baby in a stroller or carseat. It was like a snuggle-sac that zips close and keeps the baby cozy and warm without the burden of heavy pants. Forgot what it was called... It looked like this:
