We have already made the decision to go, however, we are tied to our present location for the next 2.5 years. What is the general timeline for when you start planning the logistics?

Mazel Tov on deciding to make aliyah!
Do you know what area you want to live in? We came 2 years before our aliyah to check out possible locations.
Do you have kids and if so, what ages are they? You may want to investigate schools.
Start learning Hebrew right now! (This is a pet peeve of mine - the more Hebrew you know the easier your aliyah will be).
You could already contact NBN and join their forums, see what they recommend.
If you could give us more info about yourself we might be able to help more.

Do as much research and preparation as you can now. Find a community, schools job opportunities...
Learn hebrew, save money in case a job doesn't come soon enough.
Get the kids excited.
Learn about teruma and maaser.
