I've been invited to a Purim party with a "roaring 20's" theme. Flapper dresses come to mind but that isn't tznius. Even if I wore a shell and some sort of slip under it I think it would anyway look awful on my short and overweight body. What would one wear to such a party and where would I find it? I'm highly stressed out by this. I rarely dress up.

I am a sucker for original vintage fashion!

1920s dresses were not necessarily untznius, look at those examples, they can be worn with a shell. http://www.victoriana.com/Fash.....5.jpg

Think Downtown Abbey. http://glamourdaze.com/2012/10......html

A lot of it was quite tzniusdik in reality!

Flapper girls were usually considered very immodest even by their contemporaries! Most fashion in reality was quite modest.

The most important thing about 1920s fashion is the cut in the garcon style, straight, without a waist and an elaborate headcovering such as a fancy hat or a headband with sequins or feathers.

Sport very pale skin makeup and very accentuated eyes and lips and accessoires such as small clutch bags, fur or a cigarette on a stick.

Have fun!

A lot is about the accessories, the hat(piece), the jewellery( long pear necklaces etc.)
Google 20's fashion, the dresses are quite simple.

Ok, thank you so much for the input!!! I feel better at ease about the styles. Now how do I go about finding such dresses, shoes and accessories?

Shirt dresses work well or late 1960s/1970/1980s dresses with no waistline. Some need a shell and a shell skirt but its doable.
