We've told our families and I think it's going to be (much) harder to tell our friends in shul. We live in a very small OOT community.....dh on shul Board.....I'm a mikvah attendant.....we're all so close here. Our making aliyah has nothing at all to do with being disatissfied with our community (in fact, it's one of the few things we like about living in the US).
Help!
Thanks

If I were your friend I'd hug you so tight. It's a dream I still have for 15 years. I'm so happy for you ,whoever you are. I'm getting a little jealous

I jumped up and down and squealed a lot, and did a little "happy dance".

To paraphrase the Nefesh BNefesh people, you're not making aliya to run AWAY from something. Rather, you recognize that you are running TO something.
How fortunate you are. Hopefully your community will see it this way.

They may see it as abandoning ship but iyh they'll find replacements for the kehila, and you need to put your family first.

OP here: Thank you all SO much.....DH is totally broken up about this (we've told our rav and rebbetzin and the rav [who is a very good friend of my dh] really is upset [in a professional and totally understanding way!]).
I guess we're going to call people and ask to come sit down with them for a few minutes b/c we have something important to discuss.....I just can't see doing this over the phone nor at kiddush on Shabbos!
We'll have to time it so we have enough time to talk with most people before Shabbos....
Anyway, if I could edit my first post, I would change it to say that there really are TONS of things we like about living in the US, but our community is the best thing (I sound very "Debbie Downer" in the original post!). But E''Y is where we want our family to be now.
