My 8 year old son is still having temper tantrums and blowing up over small things and can't calm himself down. He does not do this outside the house and everyone thinks he has no issues aside from me and his siblings (actually, the kids suggested I write this post. . . )
I have a number of children and I know this is not normal behavior even though he obviously can keep it together for outsiders.
I would like to take him to someone to work on emotion regulation, anger management etc.
He is absolutely adorable and a little shy and will probably come across in the therapist's office as totally wonderful but I still want to try. . .
Any ideas?
Thanks

I don't have any recommendations for you, but I suggest you set up a "nanny cam" in your home and record some of his melt downs. Take them to the therapist's office, so they can see what you're dealing with.
It is very, VERY common that problems only come out at home. This does not mean that home is the problem. On the contrary, it means that it is his safe place to vent and act out, because he knows that you will not reject him. It's a positive thing that he's expressing it around you, and not around strangers.
