I bought my sons a siddur with their names engraved on it. It's helpful to get them the same kind that they use in school so they feel comfortable with it.
Other ideas could be one volume of little medrash says and build the set as time goes on, or a table top shtender with name etc

I second the idea of a Siddur with his name on it or a set of small Machzorim with his name. Children (especially at that age) seem to be very sentimental about there name on things...

My son got a stamp with his name. best present! 2 years later and he still uses it. Any new sefer that he gets he stamps his name in it. Maybe the phone # also there not sure.
