Fish store offered me Wild Salmon last week (very expensive, but supposedly the healthiest) and Scottish salmon (supposedly more moist).
I bought the Scottish salmon and it was very good and probably more moist than the regular salmon I buy.
Which salmon do you buy thats supposed to be healthiest (least chemicals)?
and
Where do you buy it, if you live in BP?
I had this discussion w friends so Im anon.

The only one that will be healthy is one that is wild caught. All other salmon is farm raised and contains much more toxins. I do not buy mine from BP so cant help you there

I have no idea what I buy. I ask for salmon fillet. I buy mine by freunds. Very happy with their service. I get my fish orders 99% of the time within a 1/2 hour.

I just read that while wild salmon may have less chemicals, farm raised salmon has higher levels of omega 3.

So now we all know that wild salmon is better, BUT
1- its double the price, per pound and
2- you have to really trust the fish store, because they can tell you its wild salmon even if its not. The consumer would never know.

I actually did notice.
I was thinking how sometimes we think random coincidences had to have been engineered by someone.
Proof positive that theres always a small chance that out of a few hundred options, a really good match can occur on its own.
Theres no way in the world that anyone chose that Amother color for me!

OP here. One store-owner told me that you have to have blind faith in the store-owner, because anyone can tell you your salmon is wild salmon, and you have no way of knowing if its true or not.

Different states have different laws about sourcing fish and labeling, be aware of that as well. Locally my market will have the name of the vessel that caught the fish. This applies to the local fisheries near me.

You can very easily tell the difference between wild and regular salmon once it is cooked. It has a totally different taste and texture. Wild salmon is much softer.
It may be a bit harder for someone that doesn't buy fish often to tell the difference when it is raw though. Anyone that buys fish often enough should be able to see the difference when raw.
Anon because I'm in the fish business.

Maybe try a store like Fairway or Whole Foods; I was told their salmon is kosher.

At my local supermarket, farmed salmon fillet is $12.99 a pound, while wild salmon fillet is $18.99. I haven't yet justified the extra expense, I just always look at it longingly.
