My toddler took a sealed garlic powder spice container into the bathroom. We are makpid not to eat food without a double covering that was in the bathroom ; however, I assume that is a minhag. Does halacha permit the consumption of the garlic powder? Although we would not use it, may I give it to someone else? (I know I can ask my LOR, but wanted to pose the question here, first.)

Isn't a seal plus a cover two layers?

Right, but only the top has a double layer. The rest of the spice jar is a single layer.

It may be enough as a bedieved protection (for after the fact).
I'm not a posek but I don't think it needs to be double wrapped quite the same way as when heating in treif microwave.

Bathrooms today are not considered like the toilets of the past as no waste remains in them, so most hold that there is no problem at all. In fact, we were once in a hotel and I wanted to wash off fruit to eat, and DS (who has smicha) said it is no problem at all to wash it in the bathroom for exactly this reason.
