If you live in Brooklyn, Farkash Taleisim on 16th ave bet 45 and 46 sells a product called vaas. It's excellent!
I think they also sell it in some supermarkets.
About the knots, in the hardware stores and Judaica they sell an amazing product, which lets you tie the strings around it. Love it! Called mAgen tzitzit

I got a plastic magen from hidabroot online store in Israel - but it only fits the thin regular petilot... Are larger ones available in the U.S.?
