I got a stabbing awful caffeine headache and at about 3pm today (YK) I swallowed a caffeine pill without water. As it was going down I realized it had a minty flavor (it's supposed to be bitter). Am I doomed? I feel bad.

Next time keep caffeine suppositories at home for cases like this. I am sure you are fine.

I don't think you're "doomed"--it was less than a k'zayis, also you didn't realize it had a flavor.

On principal I will do whatever it takes to get through the day in one piece.

It's not in the name of kedusha, it's in the name of your addiction to caffeine. If you reframe it, it may not bother you as much.

Why would one need to ask a shaila? As far as I know, swallowing a pill is fine, especially if done without water. Taste has nothing to do with it. It's the size of the pill. But I could be wrong.

I think it would be a question. I don't think it's okay to just take a pill YK. Advil, Tylenol, whatever, this is actually a question.
I don't get this. Try weaning yourself off coffee during the week before the fast. Headaches are common YK. You can get through it.

I'm sure your high school principal appreciates that.

Whew, I'm happy you took it like that. After I posted I was a bit nervous that you might have thought I was giving you mussar or something.

No matter what it's in the name of, I would have a problem sticking anything up my behind.
And again, why would one need to ask a shaila about sticking something up their behind on Yom Kippur?

Thanks for your condescending response. Hope you had an easy fast!

Generally swallowing a pill without water is not a problem.
You can't take any medicine on Shabbas unless there is a need, a "caffeine withdrawal" headache is definitely strong enough for most people that other wise you would need to lie down so there is no halachic problem.
They say if you need water to help swallow, it should be bitter watter but I don't think the pill has to be bitter.

After investigating, I posken that you can take a pill with a spoonful of water. Does not count as breaking the fast, and as long as you dont grind the pill, you're good.
