I really hate the idea of live in help, but am in a situation where it will temporarily be required. There really is no other choice. But I really want it to be temporary, just until we no longer need it. We are talking 3, maybe 4 months tops. I know most people looking for live in work probably want something longer term. Will agencies be helpful here? How do I handle doing this only for the short term?

You said it yourself--go to an agency. That's what they're there for: finding people services that suit their needs.
