I had learned that one is not allowed to do work (meaning, for parnassah) after chatzos on Friday if everything is not ready for Shabbos, the exception being if you would lose your job or something like that. So that if you don't have to work then you are not allowed to. Does anyone know the source of this halacha?

I don't know if it's Halacha, it definitely has a source.

Maybe DH wouldn't come home 1/2 hr before Shabbos if this were so.
