How about the "Ashkenaz Cowboy" restaurant on Centre Street?

a good steak would be at Merron Bistro on Eglington. Will cost you about $60-80. Cheaper places are Chicken Nest near Lawrence, Joe Bo CooCoos on Bathurst and Chabad Gate.

Any updates since three years ago? What would be your best recommendations -
1) a nice date
2)brunch
3)early dinner
Thanks!

North or south?
South - Bistro Grande for dairy lunch/brunch
Marron Bistro on Eglinton just reopened. Haven't tried it but it's nice ambience. Nicer place.
There are so many shawarma/laffa joints around town. If you want north recommendations let me know.

How far apart are they really? I'm not sure if I really care whether it's North or South - but maybe that's as hopelessly naive as saying "Boro Park, Kew Gardens Hills, does it really make that big a difference?"...

Not quite as far as boro park and kgh and no bridges ;-). You can get between the two in 20ish minutes with no traffic. Could be an hour in Rush hour.

The best there is that makes fabulous steak is the Windsor Arms Hotel downtown has a kosher kitchen. It's pricey (but our dollar is terrible so great for you). Needs a reservation.

How does it compare to Marron Bistro?
Where would you recommend for brunch? And a casual/early dinner?

It's fancier than Marron. I haven't been to the new Marron. It just reopened last week.
Bistro grande for brunch. Early dinner can be anywhere depending on if you want dairy/fleish.
Chicken nest, tovli, laffa places are all ok not fab. If you like casual fleish Bali-laffa south is yummy.
I'm south so that's what I know. There maybe other north people that would recommend differently.
