Very old fashion name usage

DH and I are debating names and we can't decide if it's mean to give a child a very old fashion name. Like Sadie or Clarence (it's not one of those names). It's a family name so we want to use it but can't decide if the kid will hate us for it.

What do you guys think?

I think both the names you listed are old enough to be cute again! My cousin and I both named babies recently after relatives (grandparent and siblings of that grandparent) who were born in the 1910's-1920's.

Old-fashioned names are certainly coming back in style, even fashionable. (Maybe not something that's become the butt of jokes like "Bertha" or "Fannie" or "Mildred" or "Eustace"...)

My sister babysat for a Felix, and I've seen toddlers at the park with names like Archie, Sadie, Henrietta and Winnifred.

If you like the name, it should be fine.

Old fashioned names are definitely trendy again, especially if they sound Victorian.

I'm pretty sure that Adam and Chava are the oldest names you can get! Wink

just make sure to give 2 names in case your child is uncomfortable with it.

Op, what's old is new again. Sadie is a trendy name now. If you give the name we can weigh in further since it does depend on the name.

OP here. It's closer to Bertha then Sadie. We also have a second name that isn't as old fashioned that can be used so the kid can pick that name if they want when they are older.

We like the name, but only because we are used to it. I'm sure everyone is going to be shocked and think it's strange since it's so old fashioned (and honestly not a cute old fashioned name).

Is there a name that sounds similar that's more cute.
For example I don't like the Beatrice, but Betty is cute.
The same for Mildred, but Millie is cute.
Even though these are usually nicknames they can be used as proper names.

You have to like the name. That's all.
Secular society is very accepting of names so you cannot judge where a name will stand in frum society based on what is accepted all around.

That's why not to use Isabella/Izzy. The two people who jump to mind if I hear of a Jewish girl with that name are Isabella of Spain (who was behind the Spanish Expulsion) and איזבל from Sefer Melachim, who was not the nicest character. (And if this is the first you're hearing of either of those women, your Jewish education was sorely lacking.)
