It is really nice! I would take it to a dressmaker and have her build up the collar for example with faux black leather or just a darker shade of he same blue as the dress.

Tje best way would be to buy two dresses and add in fabric at the neckline and sleeves. Or try a store to match the fabric.

Get the sleeveless one, it will look better with a shell.

Also then a cardigan would be another option.

Detachable fake fur for the winter, possibly gray color.
and detachable casual lace for the summer, black or gray.
Using the same fabric from a second dress, imho, will look home-made and "shtickled".

for that kind of monies you should get something that is good without alterations ... although the scarf could work
you cannot alter a square neck without it showing - unless you make a 'clown' collar
layers & shells are just tacky or look like school uniform jumpers, child-like

How about adding a shirt collar and shirt cuffs?

How about a blouse?
I've seen people do that and it looked really put together with a white blouse and a big necklace...

I know that adding fabric will make it look like a glued-together puzzle. That's why I'm not buying this dress yet. I wish the yiddishe stores would make such nice things for such decent prices...

I have this dress in gray. Looks cuter in person and it's soooo comfortable. Wear it with a great belt. And affordable! |
Wish they had this in my size.

I wanted to get this one in teal (no more of them though). There was even a matching cardigan. But DD says you need to be thin to wear this style....

I'd say that it actually runs a bit big. Definitely long. I'm tall and the small is long enough for me.
