Tacky? Our landlords gave us a baby gift, I'm writing the thank you card now. We also need to give this months rent. Can we put the check in together with the thank you note, or better to send separately?

Do you have a personal relationship besides for them being the landlords? If the baby gift was a professional gift, no reason not to send it together, but if the gift was a personal gift, I would do it separately.
