I feel funny not having a soup course during the summer but since we don't have a/c sometimes it can be just too hot for hot soup. What do you do? If you eat a cold soup please provide the recipe.

My mother once made vichisoisse (Ruchel, French spelling. Help!...and I hate to mention "Vichy) which is a cold potato soup. It was really yum!!
Are you interested? I'll e-mail my mother for the recipe.

yup, same here. I've come to realize that the typical 3 course Shabbos meal is just too much food...nobody even wants anything much after challa, dips and fish...so I barely ever make soup for Shabbos. Same with cholent...it's more like an occasional treat when we have guests who like it.....I prefer lighter food

We're very traditional when it comes to Shabbos meals. We always have chicken soup Friday night - 52 weeks a year! It wouldn't feel like Shabbos if we didn't have it.

I make it Friday night even in the summer because it's the only thing I can get my kids to eat.

If I didn't have AC we probably wouldn't eat any food that was piping hot!
However, since we do, we eat soup nearly all week long.

By us, nobody is really crazy over soup, except for me....
I make it all winter, Shabbos and during the week too.
But, in the summer, it doesn't pay to go through all the work just for myself, because nobody else is in the mood (even though our AC is on...)

yes exactly!!! I get it ... the kids wouldn't eat it ... I wouldn't eat so much so I stick to one thing or the other ... but not everything ... like soup will be the meal with chicken and veggies inside ... or fish and salad are my day meal or deviled eggs or egg salad with challah and dips ... no cholent - a waste here for the most part ...

I make it every week (well, technically not...many times I make enough to freeze 1/2 for another week). We have many not-yet-frum or newly frum guests and they'd think it weren't a traditional Shabbos meal without their kneidel (okay, maybe it's just in my mind). Same with gefilte & cholent, tho if it were up to me, we'd do without both.

In the winter I only have a soup course and nothing after because nobody eats it.
In the summer I don't make soup and just a meat/chicken course after the fish.
My family is more of a fish course family and we really the salad and dips.
