I want to buy somethig for less than $400 tax included
I need an optical drive (dvd rw+) and minimum an i5 core? Is lenovo or acer good?

Both are good brands. I suggest you go to a computer store like best buy and have the sales ppl go through the various components with you. They really know their products

I am no longer a Lenovo fan and from what I hear around the internet I'm not the only one.
But then again, Acer has always been more of a second-rate brand, as far as I can tell.
Lenovo professional models *might* still be better, as opposed to their regular-people lines which are not great.

From my experience, Acer is complete junk and you'll be throwing money down the drain.
Lenovo - many models come with a lot of bloatware, which makes the computers very sluggish. Some Lenovos are good, like certain ThinkPads, but many aren't - be careful.
You might want to look into Asus computers, they have some very good models at decent prices.
If you don't mind an older model, Dell outlet sometimes has very good deals on good computers - but only look at their business/enterprise laptops.
