My siblings and I would like to get together to give a wedding gift to our cousin who is Israeli chiloni. My parents will be giving a generous cash gift. We, the cousins, want to give some cash plus one or two items. We were thinking possibly of Judaica items that everyone uses like mezuza and menorah - every Jewish home uses those. Any other ideas? They are already living together so it's not like they'll be setting up a new home although I suppose they only have simple things in their kitchen now.

Cash is the norm here, but those are nice gifts. Most secukar Jewish Israelis have a chanukkia, and a nice mezuzah case is always useful. There are lots of different styles -- modern ones made from aluminum and glass, or etched metal, or delicate ceramic, or carved wood, etc.

That's true. Even picking a mezuza from all the options is daunting.

Why don't you ask them if they still need sth. A friend of mine got married recently after living together for 5 years. I asked her about presents and she was looking for new wine glasses. Bought her a nice set.

You're right. Of course that's what we should do! Although they may be too Israeli and be surprised that we'd get anything but cash.
