What are the benefits to finding a real estate agent when searching for a house?

I can look online on various websites plus drive up and down the blocks im interested in and find houses for sale and call the owners or agents that are selling. Whats the point in finding an agent for myself to search?

Agents may know of houses available for sale that haven't gone officially on the market. That's how we bought ours. They have access to a larger database than you alone would be privy to.

They can also advise you regarding market values.
