I just heard from someone that it's assur to take a shower today after chatzos.

Is that true? Is it halacha or a stringency?

Neither
You are allowed to take a shower until shabbos

My LOR says u r allowed to for the sake of shabbos. Like rest of 9 days, cool water and brief but sufficient to clean yourself to honor shabbos.

This year, with the extreme heat in NY, going into Tisha Bav on Sunday having showered on Friday afternoon/evening is horrendous enough.

Thanks again, guys. DH goes way overboard on chumras sometimes and presents it as actual halacha, so I really appreciate this - I would go out of my mind if I couldn't take a shower for two days in this weather.
