We are putting in new wood flooring alongside existing wood flooring. The floors in the house are 2 1/4". Will it look really crazy to have 5" wood flooring in adjacent rooms? I really want the 5" but don't want it to look all choppy. The smallest I'll go is 3 1/4".
Thanks for your advice 😜

Which room will have the 5" new wood floors?
And what rooms are adjacent to that, with existing 2 1/4" wood floors?

Living room and dining room have 2 1/4". I'm putting wood down in hallway that's adjacent to the living room and study that's off the hallway.

I don't think you should put in larger planks in the hallway than in the adjacent rooms. It won't look right, particularly for a hallway surrounded with rooms that have smaller size wood floors.

Can you find wood that's 4 1/2" wide? The multiple of 2 1/4" should blend in because it's exactly double the narrow width.

I just put down 3 1/4 in the hallway and left the old 2 1/4 in the bedrooms. Once it's all stained the same color it's barely noticeable. If it were to bother me I would have been able to close the doors. I would have loved to put down large planks but after 3 1/4 the price goes up about double per sf
