As a spin off I want to point out that the best way to shop by mail order (wow, do I sound old, I guess I mean on-line. Heh heh) is to find a company whose sizing is consistent and works for you.

For instance, I know Lands End XL sweaters are great on me. Their shirts, however, are too fitted so I'd have to go up to such a large size that the shoulders would be way off. (Though I have some older shirts, so I guess it's only the more recent cut.)

It's always a good idea to call
Them to double check how their sizing runs.

Some retailers include detailed garment measurements in the website, perhaps in the small print. QVC is one example.

I also like to look at the reviews. "True to size" or "runs small" doesn't mean anything, but "I'm 5'10" with long arms, and the sleeves were above my wrists" is helpful.
