This might not work for everyone but I really wanted to do my sons upsherin at home, not in a hall. (for various reasons not necessarily related to cost). What I did is that I did it over 4 hours, since I knew my house could not hold too many people at one time.

About 50 shekel for peklach in gan.I also baked a bday cake for shabbos and we bought them a yarmulka and Tzitits
I can't believe how much people spend on a birthday party, someone mentioned an amount is more then my dd's wedding (in Israel, so cheaper here)

Some of the expenses sound way overboard to me. I don't even understand the $40 for the haircut that one poster mentioned. For a little boy's haircut?

Many do at home. Actually hall is an exception by me. But again we often do more reasonable numbers...
