Yesterday I was at an event where I met some family friends of my in laws. Let's call this couple Mr. And Mrs. Cohen. They are not (and never were) religious but they grew up in Lakewood and work in Lakewood and are very familiar with chareidi customs and way of life. I am noticeably chareidi.
Somehow, it came up in conversation that mr. Cohen's father had told someone he would "take care of my daughter in law (mrs. Cohen)." He then took his daughter in law out to dinner that night.
When mr. Cohen heard this story, he said to his wife, "sounds like my dad was saying something s-xual. He had to take care of you. Haha." Then he turned to me- it was just the 3 of us at the table- and said, "oh I'm sorry does that make you uncomfortable?"
I can't tell if he was being sarcastic and rude, or if he genuinely made a mistake...
What do you make of it?

If there is no way to know, give him benefit of doubt. Move on.

Funny, I didn't even think of this!
I was overanalyzing it I guess. Good advice.
