My son is shabbos abba and has to bring in nosh that is shehakol for shabbos party. Any ideas for something that is peanut/treenut free, cholov yisroel, not homemade and not junky that will still be appetizing to 7 yr old boys? (anon because I've asked this question to a bunch of ppl irl)

They are but I like them better than other candy since they're not cavity inducing and many of them don't have high fructose corn syrup

And I remember hearing that all the citric acid in those types of candy erode tooth enamel and are worse than just hard candy...

Landau's makes a 100% fruit snack that is like little jellies that come in individual pouches. Sold under "tru fruit" brand.

Are natural sugars OK for kids who are prone to pinworms or do they need to stay away from everything sweet? DD is a nosh junkie from school but started coming home with worms ever since they introduced the sandbox activity at school.

I feel compelled to ask whose rule the "not too junky" is, yours or the school's. If it is yours, think carefully about how it may impact your son. It's not so simple to be the only kid who brings in "healthy stuff", particularly at this age, for boys.
I also like the yummy earth lollipops. My kids also bring in the rainbow sour sticks and sour belts, because they don't have artificial coloring. I know one healthy mom who sends her kids with a bagful of chocolate chips, which are a real treat for the kids and not as bad as candy. Potato snacks work too.

I would think all sweet things but don't know how realistic that is.

Ooh, good idea!
What about frozen fruit bars -- basically ice pops, but lower in sugar?
Trader Joe's sells them, and I think other stores do, too.

I think fruit leathers are your safest bet.
Or natural fruit gummy type snacks.

OM here - thanks for all the suggestions. went with organic frozen fruit icepops which had more sugar per serving than I would have liked - but were the only ones I could find on short notice that were parve and not full of chemicals. the school rule is cholov yisroel, "healthy" (no definition provided) and peanut/treenut free. other kids brought in lollys previous weeks and my son wanted something different. since we're one of the only families who stick to the "healthy" rule I figured it was worth accommodating his request.
Next time I will go with stretch island fruit leather since it has much less sugar and let the other mothers worry about brushing their kids' teeth when they get home.
I personally do not consider chips, chocolate, puffs or most of the fruit snacks which have 30 grams of sugar per serving (even if it is natural fruit juice) healthy. I would have preferred to cut up fresh fruit, but to make fruit interesting to the average 7 yr old who gets lego candy, potato chips and cake on a regular basis I would probably have to patchka with fruit skewers or something equally labor intensive. I miss the good old days when unsweeted apple sauce was a treat.
animeme - yes, this is something that is becoming more of a struggle but I just can't bear the thought of joining the junk junkies
