Groundhog Day? Really?
You know it's not a holiday, there's no commercial tie-in, cards, decorations, traditional foods.... |
But it has a darned good movie. And a mascot in Punxsutawney Phil. I vote yes for Groundhog Day.

Hm, Groundhog Day does have a movie...special rites and ritual clothes for the humans involved...I guess it qualifies. I don't know if I want to know what special foods are eaten l'kavod hayom though.

Thanks for the reminder everyone.
Without this thread I never would have remembered about Thanksgiving (living in Israel does that to you) and would have just gone to my Air Supply concert (yay!).
Now I ordered a turkey and we'll have a Friday night Thanksgiving meal.
I am so very grateful to America. If not for that wonderful country my family would be in ashes all over Europe.

Ground hog, of course, aka chopped pork, thus making the day as tref as tref can be.

Been cooking for Thanksgiving all day and in my home we make a few special dishes for Shabbos Kodesh that will be saved just for Shabbos and not served on Thanksgiving. πΊπΈπΊπΈπΊπΈ

We do, both because we are grateful to be here and because it is the only holiday my children hear about in their public school that we can actually celebrate. So it is a big deal.
I call the Shabbat afterwards "Yom Tov Sheini shel Thanksgiving." I think I am pretty funny.
This year, though, given that the Hagim just passed, I myself am not at all enthusiastic about cooking more and having guests. And as I am the only one with a Kosher home amongst the guest, I have to make everything myself.
Also, because people have very specific ideas about what should be included, I make far more variety than I normally would even for a Yom Tov.
Goodnight.

Any of you who live in the U.S. should read "Rivka's First Thanksgiving." It is a lovely book.

Found a recipe for dumplings made from leftover stuffing. So tonight we will have turkey soup with stuffing balls.
