Decorating ideas and input

We are going to renovate our downstairs big room, which we refer to as the playroom. We want to make it more like a family room, where we play, read, relax, play musical instruments and spend time together, children and adults. I wanted to make it a fun but homey sort of room. A while ago I purchased a blue suede looking futon so that I can have a spare bed in there if we have a lot of guests. One of the walls has a space about 5 feet wide, 2.5 feet deep that used to house cabinetry that we ripped out and we will be putting white paneling in that part. And perhaps a 40 or 50 gallon fish tank in that space. We want to paint the walls two different colors and I got 2 bright orange rugs for the floor that I want to implement in my decor. I was thinking along the lines of , blue and grey with pops of orange decor. I need your "inner designer" to come out and give me some good paint colors or let me know if my color scheme makes any sense at all. I want to add some comfy chairs as well, a lamp, curtains, shelving for framed photos and knick-knacks and we are going to be putting an electric infrared fire place which we already have. I would love to hear some ideas. My DH and I are doing the remodeling ourselves. We may have a floor guy install a new floor, but for now the floor is a laminate wood look and is pretty decent.
