Israel died in 1997, it's unfortunate that most folks didn't know of his music until after his death. He Gabby, Ceril and Bra Pahinui, and Eddie Kamae are amongst the most famous of native Hawaiian musicians who helped launch the Hawaiian Cultural Renaissance.

I've always loved this version. Israel Kamakawiwoʻole was a very talented musician but died tragically young at the age of 38.

I heard this first in the 100th episode of Scrubs. And I like it much better then the original 1939 version.
