Trying to settle the baby to sleep in a dark room... while also playing a computer game on a laptop - screen not facing the baby... any reason not to?

I'm not sure what you mean by settling (is the baby crying?) or how old the baby is. Be aware that in a dark room the screen of a computer can glow (much more so than in a lit room)

Are you asking to find out if you should feel guilty about doing something else while you're with your baby? If you're there to just comfort him and the computer game is not distracting him from falling asleep then I don't think you should feel guilty about it if that's what you're asking.
If you're asking something else then can you clarify?
(edited to fix a typo)
