Can someone help me with the name Zelda. What does it mean? From what language does it come from? Does it originate from any ither name? Any answers will be helpful (except telling me it comes from gameboys and Mario. I get a lot if that irl. Lol)

So because some anonymous poster doesn't like the name, Op shouldn't use it
See if you can get ahold of Alex beider dictionary of Ashkenazi names (my library had it)
Google says its feminine form of selig

I'd be more inclined to use that than most Yiddish names in the US, davka since it's known from the video game series. Most non-frum people will probably figure she has nerdy parents and leave it at that, and it's normal in frum circles too.

I also heard it was a female version of Zelig. I don't really like any Yiddish names and wouldn't ever use it, but dh likes it because of the video game

Beautiful name. The Lubavitcher Rebbe's grandmother was Zelda Rochel. I also like the nickname Zelly.

Op here. I know all the names I can add and all the people who had the name. But I really would love to know what it means. Does anyone know what it means or comes from, besides being a female version of Zelig.

Zelly is a boy's nickname! I guess you could use it for a girl, but traditionally, it's Zeldy.
I hate the name. It is so ugly-sounding.

I think of Zelda Fitzgerald, who was F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife. The associations with that person don't make me fond of the name. But if you knew and loved a Zelda, then of course the name becomes beloved.

I knew someone was going to say that! It's actually also a Russian word but they mean two different colors.
