Can I use red wine vinegar instead of balsamic vinegar?

It's for a meat recipe ...or should I use regular vinegar? I am out of balsamic vinegar ...suggestions please - thanks!

Red wine vinegar should be closer than plain vinegar in flavor.

Yes, you can use red wine vinegar. It will have a slightly lighter taste than the balsamic. If you want thickness, you can add a bit of teriyaki or soy sauce.
