I'm iy"h moving to a new home and planning to do custom closet? Would like to know what to look out for. Maybe I should first unpack to see my needs ?

That maxi skirts need 40 inches plus more for the bar. My skirts are too long for the closet.

Try to get a system that has some flexibility, such as adjustable height hanging rods, so you can reconfigure as your needs change.

I have an Ikea Pax system and I love it because it's extremely forgiving. I've switched around drawers and shelves, and moved bars up and down, to better meet my needs over time.

That drawers take up more space and give you less space than shelves.
That drawers in a custom closet are beyoooooooooooond expensive.
That it's a good idea to know what you want to keep in each closet, measure height and width of bins or containers so that they fit on the shelves, or any other large or unusual shaped item such as sewing machine or dollhouse, etc.
That custom closets are so worth their price!
