Hi,
I'm looking for well written novels that I can read to my daughter who is 7. We live in Israel so English is not as fluent as someone in US or U.K..
We've read Little house on the prairie which was great. It was easy for her to understand. I'm looking for more like that.
Is Charlottes Web suitable?
Are there any Jewish books that can be recommended?
Thanks

Yes, Charlotte's Web is definitely suitable, as are The Trumpet of the Swan and Stuart Little.
Other suggestions:
The Railway Children
The Ramona series
The Talking Parcel
My Family and Other Animals

There are plenty of wonderful Jewish reads -

Not sure where you live in EY but I personally saw many of those books in Beit Shemesh (there's a store under yesh that sells a lot of English Judaica books suitable for children under 10)

At that age my daughter enjoyed the Betsy-Tacy series
Some of the All of a Kind Family books are suitable, but some not so much so proofread them first.
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle
The Five Little Peppers
some of the American Girl books
Ditto on Ramona and other books by Beverly Cleary
The Boxcar Children

Chronicles of Narnia has some really intense scenes, particularly in the later books (remember the one about the cult where none of the creatures believed there was a sky? or the scene where the cousin gets like 100 layers of dragon skin?). Clean yes, but I don't think they are suitable for a 7 year old. The first one is fine I guess.
Sideways Stories are very funny, but there's an awful lot of chutzpah (esp to substitute teachers) presented in a positive light.
I loved Chayalle's suggestions growing up, though they are for a range of ages. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, Ramona, and the first two or three Betsy's are perfect for age 7, whereas the remaining Betsy's take place when Betsy is in middle school and high school.

Sideways Stories (the first book) doesn't have any substitute teachers. It's the later ones.

You might want to check out www.chinuch.org and its secular book list to get an idea of what the books you're interested in might be like.

The chinuch.org list is really good.
It rates the books and lists what's objectional about each one so you can decide for yourself according to what your standards are.

If you are okay with her reading secular literature that is very clean, search 'Jean Little' Books on Amazon. Her books are old, like 1970s beautiful lessons and touching stories. Some titles are "From Anna" "Mine for Keeps" "Listen for the Singing" "Spring begins in March" Home from far" among many others

Menucha Fuchs has a number of her short stories anthologized. There are at least five I know of. One title is The Banana Peel Slip Up. She might enjoy reading them in English.

Yes, these are wonderful for a 10-12 year old. "Stand in the Wind" was incredibly fun to read and squeaky clean. Some of them are very sad, though.

The humor in wayside school is rather odd. Kids turning into apples? Kind of creepy.
To op:
I loved
the oz books
Betsy tacy
The five little peppers books
A little princess!!!!
The secret garden
The bopsey twins
The boxcar children
The root cellar
The great brain series
