Husband and I have jobs set up fairly close to both communities bh. I need a very general picture, in terms of affordability, childcare for my 2 babies (15m and 1m) tuition, rent, and one day hopefully soon looking to buy house....TIA

Monsey is generally.cheaper in terms of tuition and childcare. Housing is pretty similiar but you can get more bang for your buck in momsey especially in the newer further out areas. Monsey has free busing where in passaic you need to carpool. However the lifestyle is simpler in passaic than monsey less competition in terms of brand names etc.

My information is hearsay but I have been told that there is only one kosher grocery /supermarket In Passaic which is really expensive and people go to monsey to do their big food shopping trips. (And I've also heard that monsey is more expensive than say brooklyn or lkwd in terns of food shopping....)

There are two large groceries in Passaic. But Smile 1234 is right, they are not cheap, and people do go to Monsey for shopping.
Monsey and Passaic are very different communities. Passaic is much smaller, has a more urban setting (streets, walkability), has a out of town flavor to it. Monsey is way more suburban, but a lot more cosmopolitan in culture than Passiac.

Housing in passaic/clifton is very expensive with sky high taxes.
Tuition is a lot as well.
However, these are vastly different places, different types of people, different lifestyles.
You really need to see where you would fit in best, not focus soley on cost of living.

I was there recently.....there are 2 stores. Kosher Connection and Seasons - https://seasonskosher.com/#!_/Clifton, which just opened.
Seasons is big...about 20 aisles.

In Passaic, there are no hasidim. Mainly yeshivish and very frum YU.
In Monsey, it’s there are many hasidish areas.
