How do you discipline name calling? We're having a big name calling problem around here. The usual things we use for other types of misbehaviors (like time out, taking away toys or privileges, natural consequences) have not been effective. 6 and 4 year old hurl insults all day long (mostly consisting of bathroom words, stupid, and baby) and it's just never ending. I do complement them when they play nicely (and they really do play nicely most of the time), but I need some ideas for what to do in the moment. I usually stay out of it when it's one of those silly squabbles (stop looking at me! Stop copying me! Stop breathing so loudly!) But once it becomes name calling, I just can't stay out of it. How do I make it stop???

Fine? Punishment? Soap used to be more common (peper, harissa).
