I'm a professional in a specialized area. The dean of nearby university would like to create a master's program similar to the one I attended. He would like to hire me as a consultant for a minimum of several months part-time.
What is reasonable compensation?
(As a fictitious example, assume I'm a speech therapist and he wants to create a master's in speech therapy program. He would like my insights as someone who attended a similar program and practices in the field. )

do you work in a profession where people pay you, or your company for your time?

Yes. My employer charges several hundred dollars per hour of face time. But then there is follow-up. So I don't think I could accurately assess what one hour of my professional time is worth.

I'd charge the university 1/3 to 1/4 of what you are charged out at professionally.
