My question is twofold:
1. I got a used car and would like to have it checked out by a mechanic. The car is in a garage in the Mill Basin area. Can anyone recommend a trustworthy mechanic?
2. The car doesn't have plates yet, so how would I drive it to the mechanic shop?
Thanks!

You will need a tow truck to bring your new car to the mechanic

Are you being facetious?

AFAIK, she's correct. You can't drive an unregistered vehicle in NY. Either tow it or register it and get plates first.
As far as mechanics, I go to either Emil's on E.17th and Neck Road, or S Auto Sales/Quality Auto Repair on Schenectady off of Farragut. I also know people who have had good experiences with Mazal on Ralph and Farragut.

Mister Auto
Ave N and E63rd, next to the Mill Basin Shuk.
I'd just drive it w/o plates if you're already in Mill Basin and only going a few blocks.

Ive heard so many people say their mechanic cheated them out of money by either misrepresenting what needs to be fixed, or by overcharging. Is there a way to know if these mechanics are reliable and honest?
