shuni sounds like a South African, British, or Australian version of "Shani" as in Shoshana.

I also met an Israeli girl with the name shani, as in tolaas shani. The accent was on the second syllable, as in shaNI.

You know talking about shortend versions, some nicknames to me sound quite interesting from their real versions. And I'm talking too about how parents call their kids.

I.e.
Millie=miriam leah
Moppy= miriam yehudis
Dodo= dov ber
Mushy=Chaya mushka
loli=Leah
Diidi= DEvorah
Mimi= Miriam
Nechy=MeNachem
Benya=Binyamin
Mel=Jemilia

and I have more Wink

when I was younger we had neighbours belzers who had interesting nicknames, I only remember a few ie

tzikkele - tzirel she married volvy.

then they had lali I think leah and a boy itche.

well my class mates made soo much fum of these names I was soo embarresed. they had a large familly. also bruchi for bracha.

well I'm sure glad I have a normal name.

alll my nieces and nephews have a yiddish name too.

aidel rivka
chaya tzipra malka
miriam silka
yutta rochel
hendel
mindel sorah
ok most it's from my side. dh's side are more israel names.
tehila and ayalla are very popular in the fam but not for me.
oh we have a chaya mushka and we call her mushy cus she is soo yummy.

we also have ella, talia, tamar and shira.
