BE"H my grandmother will be turning 96 in two weeks. She is not totally "with it" all the time and we don't live in town. I plan on calling and sending a card and choclate. I went to buy a card and I have an incredibly hard time spending $5 for a bday card. (that is really for anyone) .Its insane!! The card will get thrown away and she will most likely not remember it, but I will and I feel bad not sending something nice as this could be her last bday and here I am being cheap. Why are cards so expensive? And while I am ranting on- where are the "mushy" ones for grandmothers???

Make One! It'll probably be more sentimental to her that's store bought one anyway...

If the money bothers you, write your own card from your heart!

You can get one from the dollar store. ITA the price of cards is insane.
I buy the dollar store cards and boxes of cards cheap.

Can you print out a photo card of you/you and your family? You can also buy plain cards from a craft shop and stick a photo to it.

Make one on word if you don't have a graphic program. It's extremely simple.

I've also seen great selections in dollar stores.

When my last was born, I bought printer stickers (like paper, that can go through the printer, but that's actually large stickers) and had my kids draw a pretty picture and write Thank You, which I photocopied onto the stickers, which I then stuck to the back of photos of the kids that I had printed out. It was an easy way to make a bunch of affordable yet "personalized" thank you cards. Same thing can be done for birthdays!
