Every corner that I see
grows
fuller of things I need
to put away. Chores
that must be done
by only one.
Me.
Husband is away. That don’t stop
the baby keep on needing
kids keep on beading
their noisy little bracelets
Lucky me.
Beads
all on the floor
behind the door
And WHO put one near the baby?!
I bought them that set.
I thought I would get
an extra half hour Sunday morn.
To sleep, to dream, perhaps forget
The mess that waits for me each dawn.
Beads, beads on the floor.
I’ll buy bead sets no more.
But it’s not the beads
that break me
unmake me
Make me hide inside a couch
at night long after the little ones are sweet again in bed.
My eyes clenched tight
avoiding the sight
of an unsettled scene.
It’s not the beads, you see.
It’s the unpacked lunches
the uncleared brunches
five hours after bedtime routine.
The unfolded fabrics in seven glaring overflowing hampers
in a room that was once the guest room before the clothes came and formed mountains and caverns and armies and now it’s - oh forget it.
It’s the unkind clutter strewn out gleefully (not by me)
in the spaces in between.
Oh help me - save me
From this unforgiving house.
Get me up off this couch
So that I might clean.
The hour is late
too late to wait.
I’ve waited so long but now it’s time to
See
the mess. To
calmly address
what’s out of place, and tidy cheerfully.
To face my fears and move my gears
Get up and
stop writing silly poetry.
Get up.
Get off the couch.
It’s not that hard you’ve done this easily.
I know you can.
I know you can.
The clear rooms in your mind will set you free.

I love your poem,
I love your creativity,
It's much, much better,
Than nuclear reactivity
(an exploding mom)

I did it! I cleaned, made the lunches and washed the dishes. BH. Omg feels so much better! And now I’m sitting on the couch again, this time slumped triumphantly as I gaze out onto the vast pastures of a clear living room carpet.
Six more hours before it’s time to get up and start the whole thing again

Love it! Much better than cleaning!

Wow! Thanks!
I will look for it on every fridge I see
accepting every invitation
in every city.
And when I find it, our eyes will meet, then both of us will look away, shyly, happy to have found each other
afraid to utter the reveal.
Happy to let our identities
stay cozy in the secret
of who we might be.
And I’ll ask you
(perhaps a little too brightly)
What can I bring out to the Shabbos meal?

Where's the "applause" emoji when you need it?
This, too, shall pass in another 20 years, give or take. 30 if you're just getting started and will be having babies for another decade. Your kids will be grown and out of the house, your home will be spotless and serene, and you will count the days till the grandchildren visit and wreak havoc.
Things never to buy for your kids:
Beads
Sequins
Glitter
Liquid poster paint

Love this!!
DH asked me yesterday- after I spent a good portion of the day doing laundry, dishes, laundry, cleaning up toys, kitchen, beds, more dishes and another load of laundry- why bother cleaning up if our kid just wrecks the place up minutes after 🙄

Because:
1. Messes don't stay static but grow bigger and more intractable if left as is. A mess that takes moments to clean up when fresh may be impossible to clean if allowed to sit.
2. Those brief blissful moments of order and cleanliness are what keeps you sane.

I have perler beads but they do it downstairs in the playroom. don't think I would allow it if there wasn't a designated area for it but they do enjoy them!
