First time mom here
My son started solids and now is going from one jar a day to two.
We don’t qualify for wic.... The jars are pretty expensive. I get the Gerber two packs for 1.39 from target.
Although they’re not making us poor we’re a bit tight and trying to spend less being that we’d love to buy a house.
Here’s my question.
Being that I started sending a jar to his babysitter, can I send a big thing of applesauce instead? Is it the same? It’s like 1/10th of the price....
Any experienced moms?
Thanks!

Of course you can. And you can make your own baby food with an immersion blender or food processor.

How do I make my own?
Can you give me examples?
And how long does it stay good for?

Google is your friend! There are never ending baby food recipes on the Internet. And you can freeze in individual portions and just take out what you need.

Just blend anything so it's soft for the baby. Chicken soup, cholent, chicken and peas, carrots, sweet potatoes - anything he likes!
It lasts as long as normal food lasts, but as it's just a blended mini-portion of last night's dinner, it will probably save you a buck.

Cook the peeled fruit or vegetable in water till soft. Then blend.
I've also made a big pot of chicken soup using chicken cutlets and vegetables. Then blending.
As the previous poster wrote, divide in individual portions and freeze.

The big applesauce is the same as the jars. But applesauce isn't food. I mix it with oatmeal or chicken.
It's quite easy to make your own baby food. Blend the veggies and chicken from the chicken soup. Make thick soups....

It doesn't last as long once it's blended - frozen is fine, or use within 1-2 days.

Can I mix the gerber oatmeal with applesauce and then freeze individually?
And recommendations what to freeze them in? The containers I’m seeing are also expensive

Ice trays. When frozen transfer to ziplocks.

I always make my own! This way, I can sneak some veggies in there without my babies gagging or spitting it out. It's so cheap, and you can make a ton. I send to babysitter in a dressing container, along with a dressing container of cottage cheese, and she mixes it up and feeds it. If your baby is too young for cottage cheese, send along with a little rice cereal, and have her mix up cooked rice cereal with homemade baby food.
