How many people are considering not sending anyway out of concern that not enough has changed in the world and it is too risky??

I would imagine it depends on how old the parents are and if they have antibodies or not.

Oh. But how many kids are still totally quarantined? Most kids are out playing with neighbors. Men are going to shul. Many communities have yeshiva and boys classes and there doesn't seem to be a rise in Kawasaki cases.

Not as many as usual will send with the viruses. We can’t anyway afford it. SYEP was cancelled.

It does for me. If they open camps we're all going.

Paying staff may be an issue too, as in NY youthcorp was cancelled.

It depends which kid - my teens I'd let work in camp as long as I felt the camp was being careful and following whatever the health guidelines are at that time.
On the other hand, there's no way my special needs child is going back to his day hab program right now if they reopen. Given his health issues I'm not comfortable taking a chance.

I would send, still hoping to send my dd. If the camp is okay with the risk level (they have Rabbonim and doctors they consult with), and camp is overnight for 4 weeks, that's long enough to rule out any transmission among campers. I would consider that a reasonable amount of risk.
I hear the "even one life" argument, but when risk levels are low we don't actually operate according to that principle. We don't ban peanut butter universally because some are allergic; we do only in a school with a child with a known allergy. We don't stay home with any cold because we might infect someone immunocompromised or because that "cold" could be an illness dangerous to a pregnant woman or newborn, we take some precautions but not all.
I am not sure I'd send to day camps where spread could be unchecked, or if camp was planning off-site trips in the first half of camp, but the risk level in an overnight camp, assuming the camp feels confident themselves, feels like a low enough level risk for me to feel confident in doing it.
I'd probably drive DD to camp myself instead of joining other parents and potential crowds at the bus, and no visiting day, but that's enough hishtadlus for me.

We should ban pools. They kill more people a year than what covid19 is doing right now.
I am serious.

I can see that you and others drink the kool-aid on Fox News.

Saying that though, I absolutely think that camps should ban all water and other related activities during the three weeks, and certainly during the 9 days. Far too many tragedies in recent years.

She must have read it on Fox News. Someone there quoted that there's over 300K deaths yearly in US from swimming pools in order to downplay the threat of Covid-19. Reality is there's only several thousand.
