(Unfortunately, my husband’s parnassa was drastically reduced due to COVID-19).
He is interested in pursuing certification as an HVAC tech and entering the field.
Does anyone’s husband work in the field?
Can you answer some questions for me?
Do you need a HS diploma or equivalent for the training or certification?
Can you recommend a good training program in NYC?
Can the training be done online or is it a hands-on program?
Approximately how long does the training take, and what is the fee?

I really appreciate any input you Imamothers can provide.
TIA

Here’s the number for a chasidish guy in Monroe who does HVAC:
Cohen (845) 662-6758
He’s very nice, maybe he’ll help you out!

I lived in Lakewood and did a lot of research into hvac. The certification process is very long and it wasn't worthwhile. Sad Maybe it's better in NYC.

I have a family member in the business. The test was very hard and he had to study a lot. The test is also not practical - it's mostly history, so although it makes you certified, you won't be able to practice unless you actually apprentice with someone to learn the business.

In other words, you can't learn the business from a book but you need to study the book to get your certification. My relative first worked with someone to learn the business and once he saw that he was good at it, he worked on studying the book and getting certified.

I think to become licensed in HVAC takes 6-7 years in NY.

According to a google search, NYS does not require licensing.

ETA- it seems there are local requirements & regulations.
