I put a dab of clover oil (iirc) till I was able to get my wisdom tooth pulled. took a large part of the pain away.

my neighbor gave me some. try calling the health food store to see if they have it. I remember now that it's CLOVE oil.

In the meantime, try chewing on a whole clove for a while. It's not as effective as clove oil but may help a little. You can get the oil in a pharmacy.
Anbesol is also available in pharmacies. If all else fails, try dabbing some whiskey right on the sore spot.

Yes I've seen people bite cloves it's meant to help. Or you can put a bit of whisky in your mouth.

Though one does wonder whether the whiskey actually relievs the pain, or makes you high so you don't care..
