My husband and child have ADD, and we are starting to research and trying to get them help.
I see there’s a need in the market for ADD coaching, and wonder what people are looking for. Perhaps I’d go into this field. Is this only the work for a psychologist or is an unlicensed but trained and effective ADD coach also desired?
What would you say is the difference between coaching and therapy and when would you seek each one?

I am looking for an ADHD coach. My main interest is in someone non-judgemental but effective who has vast experience working with ADHD and who can help me get around the tricks my mind plays. Someone who has a lot of compassion and understanding of the ADHD brain, and also who can be very accessible and easy to talk to, but not nudgy.

I am a teacher by profession and I have been told by people that I should consider becoming a psycho therapist. I have an interest in organizing but understand that the brain of a client with ADD is very different than mine and I obviously wouldn’t use the same techniques. So I think I have the qualities to work with people in an understanding, empathetic and helpful way.
I would need more training and experience working with people with ADD of course. Wondering in which capacity.

There are a couple of different certifying groups for ADHD coaches, but you don't have to be certified as a coach to offer coaching services (in NY, but perhaps it differs by location). Having certification in it does speak to a certain level of training/specialization.
Yes, typical backgrounds of ADHD coaches are psychologists, therapists, learning specialists, special education teachers, etc. who already have experience working with people with ADHD.
