We're moving into my in-laws for the whole pesach, they live in a different city, is it expected of me to buy my mil a gift?
IF yes, anybody have any ideas what to get, I'm so bad when it comes to such things.

let me add that she's the type that has all the typical gifts, she has a lot of stuff, I really want to know if it's expected of me to get something.

I think you should chip in for the pesach expenses.

what about something to make 'hostessing' easier? netilas yadayim towels or any towels- even bath-we run out of so quickly over the yontiff
what about a special thing for the seder-an emboidered pillowcase?
Lots of fancy paper goods to make chol hamoed serving less work?
Newest novels or other seforim, hagaddahs with commentaries?
Big flower bouquet with a new vase?

Offer to help as much as you can. Bring your own wine and matzo if you can.
Offer to cook a meal, give her a break. She'll love you for it, even if she says no!

I am a mil and I love pictures of my children and grandchildren. If they want to give me a present, that is what I want.

I agree with the picture idea.
and, maybe have it already framed, a really nice frame, so she can hang it up right away.

didn't read all the posts, but
1) pics of kids,or gifts made by kids
2) offer to bring Pesach basics (necesities) - wine, matzoh, disposable kitchen stuff, etc...
3) give her a "gift certificate" for 'bubbi's night off' and you and dh and kids do the dishes and clean up so she can sit and relax (or something like that)
4) get her a Pesach apron (decorated or not) that says world's best cook, or something cheesy like that!
5) be honest with her, call and say , I'd really like to get you something but I would like it to be something you want or need - what would you like? and you can make suggestions, or maybe she has her eye on something.
No matter what, it's nice to want to get her something (and yes, imo it's appropriate)

I am nowhere near being a mother in law but I think I would be insulted if my children said they are paying for cleaning help or bringing the Matzoh - unless you know financially it is hard for your in-laws and it would be appreciated.
A nice gift is a Matzoh box. They make it in lucite round and square with a cover and I think I saw it last year in the mahogany wood. It's very usefull for all the leftover matzoh from all the meals. I have it and love it. I've given it for gifts to others and everyone loves it.

hi I didnt read all the posts but there are beautiful crystal napkin rings in stores that will look beautiful on a seder table, just a suggestion. I like to buy something the person wont necessarily go out and buy for themselves...
